finding home (2017)

Blurb

Written, directed and performed by Chiara D'Anna

Lighting designer: Jelmer Tuinstra

Filmed by Sol Angelucci at the Crisis Art Festival, Accademia dellArte, Arezzo, Italy

Focussing on the demonisation and repression of women, especially independent strong women like the actresses of Commedia dell’Arte, Finding Home weaves a narrative across centuries of vicious attacks on the arts and freedom of expression. The piece interweaves the personal, artistic and historical dimension in an episodic story-telling piece.

Age guidance: 15+ | Running Time: 70 mins (no interval)

Genesis and development

The performance-presentation Finding Home (aka Don'T You Dare! R&D phase) is Chiara's journey back home; an attempt to rediscover her cultural, historical and personal roots utilising autobiographical and historical material.

The piece explores what it means to be a migrant artist; not necessarily as the eternal ‘traveller’ but rather the eternal ‘outsider’: the one who doesn’t fully ‘belong’ and is therefore ‘other’…different. This was he condition of many travelling troupes of commedianti, especially women.

“I’ve never seen anything so informative having at the same time so much fun!”

"The way you switch into different characters is impressive!"

"It’s the best performance I’ve ever seen.“

"I was so moved. Thank you Chiara”
